THANKSGIVING

Just want to wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving. Since we should be thankful every day, thought we'd do this early, well guess it's not real early. Most of you will be hustling about preparing all that wonderful food.

If you check our blog you'll see the clubhouse where we will be indulging our Thanksgiving Dinner. We have all the traditional foods the only thing we will be missing is all you wonderful family and friends. We pay $2.50 each and take a covered dish. You can't beat that!
We won't eat as much if we were with you but it will be good.

Did you know that one theory about why we eat turkey every Thanksgiving dates back to the Spanish Armada. That theory states that during the 16th century Queen Elizabeth was enjoying roast goose during a harvest festival when she was informed the Spanish Armada was on it's way to attack England, had sunk. The queen order a second goose for a celebration. The Pilgrims continued this tradition when they arrived in America. However back in those days wild turkeys were plentiful. I know it's hard to believe about the goose shortage, it's not today. This event eventually became known as Thanksgiving. In 1863 President Abe Lincoln declared the 4th Thursday as a national holiday. This day is set aside for a day of giving Thanks to our Heavenly Father.

We need to express our gratitude for what is good in our life and in America. When I focus on being grateful it's impossible to participate in my muddle of stress or self pity attitude. We have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. Trust me if you want to feel better, have more vitality, optimism and lower levels of depression and stress, change your attitude.

As we age, wisdom and life experiences help us value and appreciate our blessings. Let your loved ones know that you love them and appreciate them.

We love you all and appreciate you very much.

Remember God's Word says "In everything give Thanks" and pray without ceasing.

Leaving Iowa

You won't remeber but when we left Iowa this was the way the sky looked. The Bible says red sunrise in the morning, sailors take warning. That is so right we had a terrible day of rain and wind. But it did not discourage those Iowa state bugs, they hung on for dear life.

Our Park

See the pillar holding up the expressway. On each one of them is a Texas star, like this one. This olive tree is outside the gate.

This is Dad's favorite sign. They have it posted at the orchard
where we go to buy fruit to send home.

Our Park

These oranges are right beside our motorhome. They are getting riper each day. They are so good.
The palm trees are really tall .

This is the clubhouse where we'll have Thanksgiving dinner. They have shufflebord courts, a library. This the village clock. This park is nice to walk in too.

My new lamp

There's no end, now that I have my new table that I bought in Red Bay AL,then I needed a lamp to sit on the table. So last Saturday afternoon I took off by myself to find a lamp. Well you know me I wasn't buying a new one if I could help it or an expensive one.
The night before we went past a Goodwill Store so I asked Dad how to get there the easy way. So he told me and away I went. The traffic is terrible as you can see. They have a lot of expressways and even 3 tiers of roads. It is not easy to get across all these busy highways, especially for an old lady, but maybe that helps, I crossed a lot of them and nobody run over me. Well when I went out the gate of our park I got mixed up and went the wrong way. I walked and walked and was not finding the store. So I stopped and asked a nice young man and he got me headed in the right direction. Well I was getting tired so decided to take a shortcut. It wasn't but I found a garage sale and here was my lamp for 6.oo, she thought I wasn't going to take it so she brought it down to 5.00, but I was really catching my breath. Anyhow she got me started towards the Goodwill store. The one lady even offered to drive me there, I said no I'll be alright. Guess what after crossing all the busy highways again I finally made it. They had nothing it was pretty bad in there. You'll never believe where the store is right across from our park, but it has trees in front of it so it is hard to see. But I made it home safe, kinda of tired. The Lord must not be finished with me the way He takes care of me. The last thing Dad said before I left on my journey was be careful Honey and don't get lost! I wasn't going to tell him but it was too good to keep. It's not like I went in the men's restroom, which I've done many times. This is my favorite cactus too.

This our RV park where we are and the watertower is at the end of the street.

See these highways I wasn't kidding about them. I read in the paper down here you should walk 10,000 steps a day if you want to lose weight well my trip didn't help.

No Pictures

We are in Pharr TX and haven't been taking any pictures. The oranges and grapefruits aren't ripe yet. So I can't steal from the other trees, where there is nobody parked. We have a tree but they aren't ripe either.
Not much going on here at all. We went to Mexico yesterday and guess what the same stuff is there from last year. It is so pathetic the poverty is terrible. We filled our orders for vanilla and after walking both sides of the streets spent our 30 cents to get back into the most wonderful place on earth.
There is an ice cream store on our side of the bridge that has specials. Well we ate lunch there and guess what we had. A 99cents banana split boy was it good. Grampa says I'm a cheap date. Forgot to tell you he bought a 2.00 bag of candied pecans too. We came on back home and tired too.
So that's all for now. The produce man comes tomorrow here at the park. We really lead an exciting life.

ALASKA Sept 20 to 27th

Our trip to Alaska. These photos are taken from the plane. It was neat to see the Colombia river meandering thru the hills below. Some bigger mountains too.
We landed in Seattle boarded a bus for the pier and hoped our luggage would find it's way to the ship. We arrived at Pier 91 and got in the long line and started filling out more papers (I thought I had them all filled out), we even had to swear we didn't have the flue or a runny nose or diareha
We are finally getting to board and we are to go straight to a big buffett. We were hungry, peanuts and pretzels didn't quite cut it when you get up at 3:00. We ate and they announced our room was ready. It is beautiful and we have our own veranda. We are finally on our way. The Westerdam is one of Holland ships they have been going to Alaska 12 years before it became a state.
We had our life boat drill and pray we never have to use it.
Our luggage is even on the ship. YAH

Our steward is really talented he made this and placed it on our bed along with chocolates. Sure hope we get them every night. We want to have a balanced diet on the ship. (Chocolate in both hands).
